Wow! An update!

Eider loves laying out in the grass on sunny Saturdays!

So, I know it’s been awhile since we’ve posted, but we have been just enjoying the hot summer here.  All is well with Eider.  (yay!)  After the 1st carboplatin, it was discovered that his white cells drop at 21 days versus the more typical 14 days.  So, instead of visiting every 3 weeks, we’ve been going every 4 weeks.  Our last chemo (OMGOMGOMGOMG!) is this Friday and we are thrilled!  We will also have x-rays as well.  We did x-rays at round 3 and no lung mets.  So, fingers and paws are crossed for a similar result this Friday.

A few things to note… after chemo # 2, Eider was SUPER nauseated at the 24 hour mark.  So, we gave Cerenia and he was feeling great within an hour.  So, after each subsequent chemo treatment, they do Cerenia injection and he has a pill form of that drug with breakfast the following day.  That has been the perfect mix for him.  No nausea!

He has become very popular at the vets’ offices, both here at home and down at Auburn University.  I am going to post some videos in the forums for people to enjoy.

Also notable, is that he is not the only hemi-pelvectomy of this year.  There was another girl-dog there 3 weeks ago.  I wanted to meet her but she was still recovering.  I didn’t meet her parents, so I don’t know much more than that, but I hope she is doing well.  I will ask about her this week.

We are also contemplating going on therapeutic Rapamycin.  They are trialing this at AU right now (and Penn too, I believe).  Eider is not eligible for the trial due to the location of the initial tumor site, but they are open to us trying it.  We are going to discuss costs this Friday.  I will update on that as well.

Thanks everyone!
